Manager Financial Planning


This is a Contract position in See description posted October 1, 2017.

What is the opportunity?

As the Manager, Financial Planning, you achieve business results through market leadership, implementation of strategic direction and representation in the local marketplace and industry associations.

Working in partnership with the area and other regional teams, you implement RBC strategies, processes and disciplines to achieve sustainable earnings and revenue growth through a team of Certified Financial Planners. In this role you coach and develop an effective, adaptable Financial Planning team to maximize revenue and capitalize on opportunities. As a leader you reinforce superior client experience and enhance employee capability and engagement while leveraging full RBC capabilities, in platform and across the enterprise, to deepen client relationships.

The successful candidate may reside in Edmonton, Grande Prairie or Fort McMurray. Please note, significant travel is required throughout Alberta North.

What will you do?

  • Achieve business results through market leadership, implementation of strategic direction and representation in the local marketplace
  • Work in partnership with Regional teams to implement strategies, processes and disciplines to ensure a high level of financial advice and relationship management for clients with sophisticated financial needs
  • Develop an effective, adaptable team to ensure a differentiated experience for our clients
  • Champion practice management and lead in the implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Enhance employee commitment and capability and customer loyalty while leveraging full RBC Financial Group capabilities, including specialized roles, alternate delivery channels, and service partners
  • Coach your team on client advice and education, problem resolution and prevention at first point of contact, and advocate for digital enablement and multichannel usage

What do you need to succeed?


  • Personal Financial Planner or Certified Financial Planner (PFP/CFP) designation
  • Mutual Funds accreditation (IFIC or CSC) and minimum 2 years of licensed mutual funds sales experience within the last 3 years
  • Completed an acceptable mutual fund branch management exam offered by the CSI, or ability to write an exam within 4 months of start date
  • A minimum of 3 years Management experience, with a proven track record of managing teams of investment professionals
  • Proven application of business acquisition, establishing community and client relationships, and with success in business growth
  • Ability to employ digital channels, drive client awareness, and ensure your team is enabling clients with RBC digital access

    – ability to work with a wide variety of business partners to achieve success within a market place

  • Expert knowledge of coaching and be a change management leader
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in managing a geographically diverse and mobile team
  • A post-secondary diploma/degree, ideally in Commerce/Business Administration, or related experience
