Definition of Motivation

The definition of motivation is for reason, excitement, enthusiasm or interest that causes a specific action or particular behavior. Motivation is present in every life function. Simple actions like food are motivated by hunger. Education is motivated by the desire for knowledge. Motivators can be all of reward for coercion.

There are two main forms of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is internal. It happens when people are obliged to do something for pleasure, interest or desire. Extrinsic motivation occurs when external factors require the person to do something. However, there are many theories and labels that serve as subtitles for the definition of motivation. For example: "I will give you a candy bar if you clean your room." This is an example of reward motivation.

A common place we need to apply motivation is at the workplace. In the workforce, we see motivation play a key role in leadership success. A person who is unable to understand and apply motivation will not become or remain a leader. It is crucial that everybody who wants to lead or motivate understands understands "Hierarchical Hierarchy of Work Motivators."

Salary, benefits, terms of employment, supervision, policy, security, security, affiliation and relationships are all externally motivated needs. These are the first three levels of "Hierarchical Hierarchy". When these needs are met, the person moves to four and five. However, if levels one to three are not met, the person becomes dissatisfied with their work. If satisfaction is not found, the person becomes less productive and ends or is fired. Performance, progress, recognition, growth, responsibility and work environment are internal motivators. These are the last two levels of "Howletts Hierarchy." They occur when the person motivates himself (after external motivation, the needs are met.) An employer or leader who meets the needs of the "Howletts Hierarchy", sees motivated employees and sees productivity. Understanding the definition of motivation and applying it is one of the most common challenges faced by employers and executives. Companies often spend thousands of dollars a year outside companies to give just motivation seminars.

Another place motivation plays a key role in education. A teacher who implements motivation techniques will see greater participation, effort and higher grades. Part of the teacher's course is to provide an environment motivated. This environment is for students who do not have their own motivation. One of the first places where people set goals for themselves is at school. Ask an adult: "What's the most important thing you motivate." Their answer will probably be goals. Even the simplest things in life are the result of the goal. A person can say, "I want to save 300.00 for a new T.V." Well, that's a goal. School is where we most likely learn the correlation between goals and the definition of motivation. That correlation is a success.

So, as you can see, motivation is what makes life alive. It plays an important role in almost everything we do. Without motivation, we would just not worry about results, resources, performance, education, success, failure, employment, and so forth. What would be the point?
